I have a copy of Office 2007 on my daughter's laptop and a copy of Office 2010 on my laptop plus a copy of 2010 on my desktop. If I upgrade my laptop copy of 2010 to 2013, will this allow me to upgrade the 2007 version on my daughter's laptop to 2010?

Essentially, as you can legally load Office on two machines, by upgrading one of them to a more recent version, does this therefore allow me to re-use one of the 2010 licences?

I did. I get Office for less than a tenner through work so upgrade every time.

I just installed 2013 on my PC and put my old 2010 license on the better half's machine with no issues.

strictly speaking, you should un-install the copy of 2010 before putting 2013 on.

also, it must be DVD version. i had the 2010 product key card only and i found out it can only be installed once and it's tied to that one machine.

Not for mine. I only get a key emailed to me and have used it on my lap top, desk top and now my girlfriend's desktop. Though when I purchase I do get the option of a DVD if I want one.

Not for Office 2013. They've done away with DVD installation. With 2013 you can start using it pretty much straight away once you've run the small executable you download, and features are then streamed to your PC as required. Quite ingenious really.

You only get a DVD version if you pay extra for them to send you a backup DVD.

On the subject of 2013 licenses though, I still can't figure out if I can still use my 2013 licence if I upgrade my PC. Like the above posted I get the latest Office version for £8.95 and have just installed 2013, but I'd like to know what it means if I format my hard drive or change my motherboard etc.

Have you bought an Upgrade or have you purchased the full version of Office? I would assume if you have purchased an upgrade, you will not be able to transfer your previous licence as you haven't purchased a full licence for 2013. Only an upgrade licence.

*sigh*

it's all about context. read the first post again and look at what was being asked.

If I upgrade my laptop copy of 2010 to 2013, will this allow me to upgrade the 2007 version on my daughter's laptop to 2010?

the OP want to re-use 2010 from his laptop to install on the daughter's laptop with 2007.

upgrading 2010 on the laptop to 2013 and then installing it over the 2007 machine would mean it's installed on 2 machines at once. now read my post again. does the penny drop for you now?

where does any ambiguity about 2013 come from?

No need to get shirty; if I and others have misinterpreted your reply then it's just an innocent mistake rather than something befitting low grade e-sarcasm. I read the OP and understood his question. I think the ambiguity comes from this:

strictly speaking, you should un-install the copy of 2010 before putting 2013 on.

also, it must be DVD version.

...which could be interpreted as when you put 2013 on you should use the DVD version.

Are you always this defensive when questioned? Good luck in your professional life if so ;).

why would the version of 2013 matter? it's not related in anyway to the issue at hand. you just keep on digging.

and yes, i will get defensive when you post in this manner with your little winky on the end.

so maybe it's more your ambiguous posting than anyone else missing the point ;)
