MS Outlook .pst store

I have used MS Outlook Express (OE) for many years. I have recently started useding Outlook, mainly because of it's enhanced address book/contacts.

When using OE, I used to move the default store for message files to a location in my documents. Reason being I didn't have time to delve around in the system folders finding message files, it was easier to store them in the 'My Documents' folder and that was backed up regularly. That way, when I re-installed Windoz or got another computer, so long as changed the OE mail files in the new computer or operating system to the same target folder as that of the old system or operating system, all my previous mail messages would be saved when I copied 'my documents' over to the new computer or operating system.

In outlook, mail messages and contacts appear to be stored as a .pst folder that is stored in the documents & settings/user/application data/microsoft/oulook folder.

My questions are:

1) Have I found the correct location of the Outlook mail files, i.e. the .pst folder in the location described?

2) How do I change this default location to one that is more easily accessible and there for copy-able for for archive?

1. It's usually C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook by default.

2. If you close outlook, move the PST to the location you want, open outlook again, it will complain that it can't find the file and ask you to point it to the new location.

just move the file (while outlook is closed obviously). start outlook and it will grumble that file can't be found and brings up a browse box so you point it towards where your file is. job done. :)

this works for 2003 anyway, i just tried it. :p

edit: great minds eh? :D
