Not sure on the best forum for this but thought I might as well try here.

My MS Sidewinder FFB2 joystick has been working forever, but since a fresh OS install I can't get this buggering thing to work. Anyone got any hints how to get this thing working? I can only get it to appear as a "4 axis 8 button joystick with hat switch" in the usb game controllers dialogue (I could swear it used to appear as "MS Sidewinder" or something to that effect) and DCS isn't giving me FFB any more and IL2:BOS isn't even accepting input.

Really just want to smash it, but it's the best joystick in the world when it works :)

Anyone got any old driver links or something?

I've tried rebooting countless times, various USB ports and even tried uninstalling with USBDeview, but nothing changes.

Really annoying bit is how it sometimes pops up with the Windows 10 notification saying "Installing MS FFB2 blah blah blah" then adds it as a lame 4 axis 8 button joystick again.

Technically, it's picking up all the buttons and axis, but I can't get FFB to work and IL2:BOS still doesn't even accept button clicks let alone an axis input.

I think I had mine working in Win 8.1, pretty sure I found a copy of the legacy software. Didn't use it for long as it was kinda useless for what I wanted it for, but I'm pretty sure it worked with the old software.

Any hint as to where to find its software? I’m sure it worked without the software before but I can’t find drivers or software for it anywhere :(

I'm afraid not, this was about 2 years ago now. I used it in FSX, but found the lack of self-centring when you let go of it to be an issue, so switched to a different one.

How did you get on with this mate?

First thing's first - I did NOT download that driver, and I'd advise against download it yourself.

However, I did get the joystick itself working and recognised as a MS FFB but I didn't get FFB working in any of the games I remember it working in.

I think to get it recognised as a MSFFB I basically had to remove every single reference to the connected USB device everywhere. Registry, everything I could find in USB dev view, everything - then add it again.

If it got recognised as a "4 axis 8 button blah" I'd rinse and repeat, deleting even more stuff until finally it connected one time and recognised correctly and kept the name.

I then think there was a problem specifically with IL2:BOS where it's always a pain when it comes to adding joysticks - but I can't remember what that was. I've not played it since then anyway.

All in, I didn't get FFB working in any game, but I've ultimately not actually played any flight sims since then :(

If you get anywhere be sure to let me know as I likely be going through this all again come next year when I complete my study rebuild.

Not a problem mate, I just picked one up on the MM, as I remember them being great and wanted to have a play around with it. I’m not a big flight game person, and I’m more into space sims.

I’ll update you when I make some progress.

It should just be plug and play.

I could swear during the original alpha of elite dangerous I had feedback when shooting lasers but I just couldnt get it working again.

I think there's still a forcefeedback enable/disable option so I assume it still supports it but no dice at the time.

Good luck, when it works it's awesome and why I've kept hold of it for when Ive got the time to try again.

I’ve been waiting to play ED until I found a joystick like this. If I enjoy it I may invest in a fancier one, if for instance I enjoy the use but can’t get force feedback to work.

It’s such a shame that silly company went bust but refused to let the patent go.
