MS standard wireless optical mouse question

i recently aquired this mouse - model 1025. I have searched but cannot find the answer.

the 'problem' is that the mouse never seems to switch itself off. I imagined that it would automatically shut itself down after a few miutes. however, i notice that the led is constantly flashing..... seems to be a waste of battery life if it is on all the time like that (or am i doing somthing wrong)

No they stay on, in theory they use very little power and the batteries are supposed to last xxx amount longer than the average mouse.

In fairness I have one and in 2 years its gone though 3 sets of batteries.

If your worried, get yourself some rechargable AA's and then you can just pop them out and charge them.
