MS Word - backwards compatibility

I am planning on getting a cheap (as in a £50 pentium1) laptop with either wondows 95 or 98, and MS Word from office 4.3 so my wife can use it for word processing whilst i'm gaming on the desktop! I have XP and Word 2002 on my PC, so i was wondering whether the 2 versions are compatable - will my wife be able to save a word file to floppy on the laptop and then load it onto word 2002 to be printed off?

Yes, it should be able to handle older versions of itself with no trouble. I've used Office 97 documents in an Office 2003 environment. Foreward compatability is next to nil though.

I always save in rich text format to save hassles.
