MS word issue - template problem

I've tried for the best part of 2 weeks to get my head around this problem without any luck. Basically we have a word document, which we use as a washing line (their phrase not mine), which basically means that we continually add to the one document when new info is received rather than creating new documents.

In this one document, we wish to add a template via autocorrect. What should happen is that when the user types 'template', the template inserts itself into the document and then the user can then add the newly received info to the document in the form of the newly inserted template, on and on this goes.

But what actually happens is that the template is inserted correctly, except for the footer which isn't inserted at all.
When we initially set up the autocorrect, we done 'edit' then 'select all' to make sure that the whole template was captured, yet it still doesn't seem to capture the footer as this isn't inserted with the rest of the template. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this issue?
