MS Word - Referencing System? - Auto Numbers?

Aloha dudes and dudettes..

Basically.. im referencing using IEEE standards.. so im using [1] in the text and then the full reference of [1] at the end.

Ive done this manually before, but my dissertation will break this system if i need to remove reference number [2] and consequently the next 70 references all need to be manually moved back a digit..

So, what solutions are there to such an issue? Im currently writing using footnotes which update automatically, but i need the system described above.

Are you using Word 2007? The referencing system renders all of this obsolete

Im not.. i fear the new GUI.. but if it does indeed solve this problem it may be worth the upgrade. Fairly sure i can get it from uni.

Nope, ECS doesn't provide it as it's not part of MSDNAA, although you can get a licence for the full version of office for £40

Or just sit in Zepler labs all the time, that's what I do
