Pardon the potentially retarded question, but does the transfer cable require a cd? I was sent a transfer cable by a fellow forum member however this was the only thing I received. Unfortunately it didn't work for transferring content from the old HDD to my new console, essentially everything was connected correctly and no prompts appeared or any new devices through the option menus. I assumed either my hdd was dead or the cable was faulty but was unable to get my hands on another hdd to test it (though I see no reason why the hdd would be dead or the cable faulty.)

So do I need a cd to make this work?

I did the same thing on Saturday and didn't use a disc(lost mine),after a few minutes a prompt came on screen and i just followed instructions
It all worked fine

Back when I did my transfer it stated to use the USB sockets on the back of the console. Not sure if it's the same with the new version. Could be worth trying if you've been using a front USB port.

oh bugger! The thought of all those lost games is horrid as a borderline hoarder!

My console was up to date when I tried and no mention of cd's then so I assume either the hdd is fried or the cable doesn't work. Will have to grab another hdd to test when I'm home, tried back usb ports which changed nothing. Is there much potential for a RROD killing the hard drive?
