I tried Xbox.com but these questions are obviously too dumb for even there...

I have an Xbox1 and never used Live and now I have a 360 and Live Silver (no online gaming). My son wants to be able to game against his mates so I thought I'd look into.

I understand the costs (and have found the Gold sub a bit cheaper elsewhere) but not how it all works. Hence the questions:

1) Can one Xbox Live sub cover me for my Xbox1 and 360?
2) Can one sub cover me and my son on the same 360?
3) If I have an XBLive on 360 called Methanoid (surprisingly) then can I use a "retrieve account" on Xbox1 to use same on XBox1?

Hope that made some sense to someone....

1) Yes
2) No, you'll need to pay to get gold as the sub is tied to the user, not the console.
3) Not sure as I've never had or used an XBox.

1/ dont no
2/ 1 gold sub covers 1 gamertag, if you and your son have different gamertags you need a gold sub each
3/ dont no

Whilst we're on the subject of noob questions about Live...

I know that I need gold to actually play multiplayer but if I let it lapse and it turns into a silver account, my online game stats (eg COD4 online points, kills etc) are still retained yes?

Your online stats will be saved even if you change from gold membership to silver membership.

You can recover your gamer tag FROM xbox to 360. If you want to recover it back to your old xbox1 then you need to ring microsoft/xbox unless it changed since last year.

Just as a matter of interest why do you want to recover your game tag to the old xbox.

You wont get gamer score points?

The only reason why you would want to recover your gamer tag is to play your old xbox games on line...? IF thats the case, the games you wanna play on line should work on your 360. There is a list on the xbox website that tells you what games are backwards compatible.

Just wanted the choice of where to play. The emulated Xbox1 games are GENERALLY ok on 360 but some have minor issues and why boot a 175W console to play a game when a 70W console plays it just the same?

Stats are on a server, so your fine. I went on a game that i hadn't played in over and year and my stats were still there. In that time id gone silver, changed my account name, then gone gold :)

If thats the case, unless they have changed it you need to ring Microsoft/x box first before you account recover.

When the 360 came out, you could only do it one way.

To be honest, account recovery is very frowned upon by Microsoft. Account recovery is a tool in case your HD gets corrupt etc etc.

They don't like people doing account recovery, because of cheating gamer score etc etc. I know you aint doing that but be very careful. I got an email from xbox, asking why i was account recovering so much!

Thanks for the confirmation. I plan to have a month or two break from gold after my current sub runs out so it's good to know I don't lose any online stats when I come back :)
