I just signed up for this with a chap who paid a visit to my house with all the info.

Anyone done this course before and any tips?

I went with Home Learning College.

would it not be cheaper to jsut do it yourself, its not like they are going to give you and qualified help..... they will jsut make you sign up to some rip off finance agreement take your money and post you £10 worth of books..?

depending on how much you know the testking stuff can be quite good, they give you the exam questions but also explain why the answer is the answer it only works out to ?£150? for the q and a to 1 exam..

If the course is for potential employment then I am not sure how much credence employers give to some of those courses. I suppose it depends on the course and the level of study.

If the purpose is just to get familiar to a decent level for personal use then have you considered evening classes run by your local Council, some of these are quite good and cheaper than the MCSE fees, plus there is hands on tuition in classrooms with trainers etc. I know a couple of people who have benefitted from these Council run courses.

Good Luck

If your good with computers and can get your head around things easily then you will be fine. Its worth the money if you can transfer that outlay into a job where by you are earning more than you originally were otherwise like anything else itll be a waste of your time, effort and cash.

Good luck and keep at it!

Spot on there Andy, my previous role was a level 3 on site engineer. I couldn't go any further/higher salary without a qualification. Work wouldn't pay for it so decided to invest some of my own money into some personal improvement :)

Thanks for all the comments guys.

Tips?

Read the MSPress books
Get a test domain setup under vmware/old pcs/whatever
Practice the theory
Make good notes
...and enjoy yourself :)

It's well worth doing, and once you have the MCSE there are some easy paths to upgrade to the 2k8 certs if needed.
