msconfig change caused bluescreen

Hey, I wonder if you could help me.

I have recently started playing the classic, Rome total war game again and noticed pretty sloppy performance, even worse than shogun 2.

After searching I found that it works best on single core CPUs. I have a Phenom II X6 1075T 3ghz, overclocked to 3.6ghz.

So, as naive as I maybe was, I wen't into msconfig, advanced options, and ticked the checkbox for number of processors, leaving the number at 1.

When restarting, I had a bluescreen. It was a bitch to fix, as for some reason none of my recovery solutions worked, but eventually I did.

Anyway, I would like to know why this caused a bluescreen, or if there is a way to limit the cores to 1, without causing bluescreen?

Thank you for your time.

im not sure what caused the blu of death it could be a lot things but that option is just what it uses during startup, its to help ur startup speed, doesnt effect when inside windows

task manager is what you wanted, right click set affinity

that ust enables boot on multiple cores it doesnt affect games you need to go into the game config to set it to single core you might want to google that though

To set it to use a single core, you edit the game config, not msconfig.

You may also be able to simply set the affinity of the game's executable to run on a single core (done through Task Manager).

Ah, I see, thanks for clearing that up.

The affinity thing sounds promising...if I only want to use a single core, should I tick cores 0 and 1, or just 0? In total the cores range from 0-5.
