As I'm a bit disappointed by the new RTX cards (especially price). I'm now looking at the 1080ti to replace my 1070, to give me a bit more "clout" on my 1040p / 144hz monitor.

Just a few questions if there are any owners out there.

1) As this is the non extreme version. Is the only difference the clock rates?
IE. No mechanical changes to the cooler etc.

2) Is there likely to be much over clocking headroom? Or do all the decent chips go to the extreme version?

3) What's peoples experience with coil whine on these cards at sensible FPS? As there does appear to be a fair few people complaining in general about this on the higher powered 10 series cards.
Fair enough, pretty much all graphics cards will whine if you push the FPS high enough (IE. 100's of FPS). Only really interested to hear if there are wide spread issues at normal gaming rates (IE. <= 144 FPS in my case).

Thanks in advance.

PS. Don't want to turn this into an RTX discussion thread.

Gaming X has been the best Ti to date for me and I have tested many of them.

Quiet, cool and has had the least coil whine although they all have it to some extent.

Mine overclocks to 2025/38mhz. They aren’t hand picked for the gaming X or anything like that so you will likely see the same overclocking potential between both cards depending on the silicon lottery.

Loved my Ti Gaming X, second only to my Strix (which is only because it ran slightly cooler). I'll try to help;

1 - I'm 99% sure that this will be exact, only set at a lower clockrate.

2 - In the past it's been shown that the branding hasn't mattered much at all when it comes to overclocking, it's all a silicon lottery.

3 - Heard no whine on mine, and I like to run a very quiet rig even when gaming :)

Hope this helps!

Thanks guys.

Decided to give one of these a try. Order placed, not too bad at £619.99 (thanks Gibbo).

No pockets in a shroud, as I'm want to say.
