Msi 290X bit warm?

I used to have the 290X gaming and re-applying the TIM knocked temps down by around 7-10C. Stock clocks was running at around 76C. OC to 1150MHz was 85C.
Bear in mind though that 1440P + will heat the card more than 1080P.

my MSI 290X regularly hits 95C. at first i was gobsmacked but after doing a fair bit of reading it seems that this is within operational ranges. Running at 3440x1440p.

still mulling over a 1070 or whether AMD might pop up with something comparable.

Been playing Doom4 on ultra settings @2560x1600
Mostly fine at around 70fps ish depending on map etc
Been noticing that temps are staying mostly at 93oC and 100% gpu usage
slight oc to 1050 on clock,mem@1250

Is it worth reapplying the tim on the card?Would it drop temps?
Just had a refund on my tax :D so am REALLY tempted for a 1070:p
Opinions please :)

Undervolt the card and make an aggressive fan profile. (80C @ 95% fan)

How to undervolt? Just put negative mv on the overclocking software you use.

My 295X2 was working on -50mv +50% at 1150/1625, with it's stock cooler.

Try with -10mv and start cutting 10 points until you either hit -50 or you crash out. If you crash raise it by 5mv.

It will greatly reduce the heat, and power consumption, without affecting performance.
Also what are your case temp? The days are pretty warm atm, have you considered to remove the side of the case to have some cooler air in?

When was the last time the dust was cleared from the heat sink?

I got tired of my 290x sounding like tornado under load. Fitted a Kraken G40, idle today 36c, full load 58c. Heatsinks fitted to VRM. Love the card, the heat is ridiculousness.

Voltage was on 37mv default, not altered anything so i knocked it down to +0
Changed the tim for MX4
Played Doom for 30 mins or so and while the temps stayed at around 86 oC it froze at the fight on level 3?
Have bumped voltage up to +13 now will have go later this eve and see if i crash again,if so it is back to default volts
Seen the 1070 i had my eye on is down in the DOTW

GeForce GTX 1070 AMP Extreme Spectra RGB 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card ;)
Getting real tempted now:D

Gpu is clear of dust
case is also clear, got demiflex filters on all inputs
Case temps `feel` ok cpu is at 33oC while surfing here, room temp is 22oC

Ok then, undervolt the card. They do operate perfectly under serious power starvation.

Could not resist any longer :D

Good choice. Prepare for all your component temperatures to drop significantly, plus for your room to feel much cooler :)

Just been having a bash at Doom
Been using the firestorm app to tweak core to 2000,played fine and dead silent :)
Reason it was so quiet was that the fans were not spinning at all:eek: Got to a nice toasty 90oC.Still worked fine no crashes
It was on Auto setting so should have been ramping up as temps increased
FPS was at least 100 all the time I could see with res at 2460x1600 on ultra

Whats the better/best app for overclocking/controlling fans?
Was using Afterburner before, this still good or is there something better
