MSI 290X Lightning problem

Just been looking about and it seems that the 14.3 drivers are Lightning killers. They stop the side fans from spinning up when the card gets hot, thus the cards middle fan can't cope. Loads of reports around the world of the same thing.

Just had a read of that and seems that you must use 13.12 or the fans don't spin or you have to manually set the fans. Hope this helps.

I guess I should have looked into the beta driver a bit more before trying it out, I just wanted to see what Mantle was like. After RMA I will stick with official BIOS and stock clocks. Hopefully that will be safe...

So is this just a case of dodgy betas or are we likely to encounter this problem in future official drivers, because if it's likely to appear again in the future, it's going to make updating your drivers a bit like Russian Roulette!

I would hope MSI wouldn't let a fault that can kill one of their top end graphics cards make it into an official release. Never know though unfortunately...

In fairness, I can't see this as user error but an error from MSI or AMD. Hopefully they will fix it soon but it isn't good reading in fairness.

I really hope they fix it, because i tried 14.4 today, and the powertune is fixed in it. I finally getting back my Firestrike physics score! :)

Could this have caused any problems with anything else in my PC? Just black screened with my 7850. After rebooting the desktop icons have been rearranged as if the resolution was reduced. I uninstalled the beta drivers before putting the 7850 back in and I'm currently using 13.12.

I posted the 290X back this afternoon.

Edit: It seems the memory corruption may have caused some corruption in the OS. Sfc, chkdsk and dism look to have cleared that up, hopefully no more issues.
