MSI 5850 Twin Frozr Driver problem

Hi.
I took advantage of the Xmas deal to upgrade my old nvidia 9800gtx to a shiny new 5850.

The card appeared to work perfectly, connected to my 22" w/s monitor using DVI, until I decided a week or 2 ago to update the driver from the 8.x one shipped with the card. Upon updating the driver to anything beyond 10.x the card fails to send a signal to the monitor (blackscreen)
Safe mode then works.

As part of the "I'll fix this " process I have performed a clean installation (wiped HDD) of Windows 7 Pro x64.

The only "solution" I've found so far has been to change from DVI to d-sub connection which then works, though with slightly lower image quality, obviously this isn't a long term solution.

Any suggestions?
