I currently own a HD7970 msi lightening gpu. However someone I know is selling their msi 780ti oc edition at a good price. Is it worth the change or not?

Haha fair play in terms of performance etc, is it going to make a big difference? Or just better for future proofing

depends on what res/image quality you play at.
no such thing as "future proofing" lol...
the 7970 is now considered mid range, the 780ti is still high end.

imo, if games are not causing you any problems fps-wise, just keep the money and soldier on with the 7970
