Hey
Speccing up a build for my brother I've settled on a MSI HD7870 as providing the best bang for buck with his budget - he can't stretch up to the 660Ti or the 7900 series.
However I've seen mention that the MSI 7870 has heat issues: is this a widespread issue? One example I saw only had one CPU heatsink fan, a PSU fan and the two on the graphics card, but I can't tell if they were being particularly dumb or whether the problem is more widespread than that.
Cooling should be reasonable in the build. Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 with 3x12 or 14cm intakes (2 front, one bottom), two 120mm exhausts through a H100 on the roof, and the PSU exhaust. I figure the temps inside the case shouldn't be too bad - the CPU heat will be exhausting directly out of the case, so the inside will only have the GPU heating it up.
So yeah, will this remain an issue? If necessary I can push the budget up to another brand of 7870, but I'd rather avoid spending the extra £20 if it's not going to be needed (apart from anything else, I want the black PCB of the MSI)
Thanks
