msi 7950 crossfire

I was looking at the 280x or shall I say 7970 in crossfire the other night and lets just say I want another one now!

I think you'll be blown away anyhoo :)

Reason im askin as I was originally going to go crossfire 280x, however I can get 2 msi 7950s with ek water blocks and backing plates for 300 bucks which to me seems like better value for money than a couple of 280x and full water blocks. Just not sure how good performance would be compared to the 280x

Ah good point!

I would've thought 2 7950's would be quicker and cooler with those water blocks, go for that :)

There too many variables to give an exact answer considering neither game has a set/built in benchmark.
Either way, two 7950's with blocks/backplates for £300 is pretty damn good and will be a fair bit faster than a single 280/290 in those titles.

What cpu will you be using and what rad space do you have available?

Rad space is fine, but you really could do with an i7 to get the most out of them on those games (until mantle is sorted out for xfire and 7xxx cards with BF4 anyway).
Crysis 3 would definitely benefit from more threads.

Yes, they'd be more powerful, but they would be held back in certain titles by the cpu to an extent.
I'd consider grabbing a 290 with the aim of putting it underwater at a later date or maybe selling the 4670K and upgrading to a 4770K if you want to get the most out of xfire.

You'll see lower GPU usage/fps and maybe the odd bit of stuttering here and there. Nothing too drastic, but an i7 (especially with unparked cores) would sort that right out.
