Hi,

I recieved a new MSI 7950 OC ediiton a few days ago and I have suddenly started having issues with a 'flickering' screen.

Please take a look at the video linked.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? I was on the latest drivers when this started happening, so I tried the new 'Never Settle' drivers and I am having the same issue.

Something really odd is that it also happens occasionally on the desktop, not very often but it does happen.

I had zero issues with this until after about an hour of playing XCOM. I have also seen it on other games I play now. So it is not just limited to XCOM.

~22 seconds in.

PSU is a 600W OCZ StealthStream.

Cheers,

I get very small glitches like that when on desktop, never in gaming though. I just put it down to being a driver related issue. Is it running at the stock OC speeds from MSI?

Yes running at stock speeds.

It's very frequent for me and starts instantly happening as soon as it gets some load on it. I have tried upping the voltage a bit to no avail and also down clocking a bit with the same results.

I am going through a driver re-install now to see if it clears anything up.

This type of flickering occurred with my MSI 7950 before the card totally failed with permanent artefacts. I RMA'd the card and have not had any problems with the replacement.

That would drive me mad, why pay £250+ for a card to 'live' with issues like that. :p

It could be driver issues but also could be the sign of a defective card.

had to rma mine but looked far worse than that. waiting for replacement tomorrow. hope its not a msi prob as few others have had issues with this gpu.

I had very similar problems with mine too.

I sent it back and swapped it for a GTX 660 Ti, which I have been pleased with.

Had similar problems, but doesn't happen often enough for me to get really annoyed.

I'll hold out for 8xxx or 7xx series.

The only reason I upgraded from GTX 470 SLi was the awesome reports I had read about the HD 7950.
I would not have 'upgraded' for a GTX 660 TI, but now i've got it i'm pleasantly surprised.

The HD7950 was a poor experience for me and it has soured my opinon of ATi.

It doesn't stop Rusty0611 from recommending them constantly though, despite having never tried one and despite the fact he has a nice nVidia GTX 670 SLi rig.

Its all relative, the 7850's and 7950's are selling really well at the moment. For every 1 person such as yourself who has a faulty card, there are probably 100 whose cards are fine. You were unlucky and got a faulty card, it happens, get over it.

If anything it should have put you off that vendor, be it MSI or whoever, but I'm sure the chip which AMD supplied them was fine. You should have just tried another rand 7950, especially now they are far better performance/£ than the nvidia equivalent.

I bought my msi tf3 2 weeks ago. Had problems the first time and sent it back got a new one, but haven't installed it yet. Moving from one case to another this coming week. Hope when case is done and GPU installed I don't have any issues? I'm starting to see a lot more posts up here about msi and the 7950tf3 having problems?

If I do have any issues I'll send it back for a different card.

The thing with the glitches, is it happened so infrequently for me it would have been hard to RMA the card.
The only way I was able to reliably reproduce the glitches was using MSi's Kombustor.

I had other issues with the HD7950 such as poor performance (20 fps) on certain World of Tanks maps.
This is one of the games I am currently playing the most and thats why I chose to go back to nVidia.
I have read that the majority of these glitching issues are with MSi or Sapphire cards, so it may not be all HD7950s that are effected.
I am happy back with nVidia however and if anything the GTX 660Ti seems to perform better at 1080p in the games I play.

I hope you get it sorted OP, even if you have to switch to another vendor, keep us posted. :)

Perhaps its a problem with these new 7950's on the 7970pcb? AFAIK only sapphire and MSI are doing this. I have had problems with sapphire before, I generally rate their build quality/testing as low quality, but have had no problems with MSI (apart from motherboards)
