MSI 7970 Lighting Crash

hi all

recently bought the lighting edition 7970 and since putting it in it has crashed 5-6 times giving me a gray screen with black vertical lines, the pc itself hasn't crashed because the audio was still playing as normal but i had to turn it off via the power button to restart.

the only times it has crashed it while being on the desktop using Firefox or playing and avi or mkv video, not once while in game, though im not sure if thats just down to timing or not. when the card runs it runs fine up until it crashes.

nothing has been done to the card and pc isn't overclocked, Ive tried the msi after and ran it for 5 minutes which didnt seem to have an issue with.

also the event viewer doesn't report an error in the logs

any help would be great cheers

You could try 3 things

-disable hardware acceleration in Firefox
-set your 2d clock same as the 3d clock
-try using a different render for video (i.e. madVR)

I never had any problem with flash/firefox, although people have reported similar problem to yours (from sluggish scrolling in firefox to bsod playing youtube video). Some resolve by updating flash, or disable hardware acceleration, or just switch to other browser.

I do have some strange bsod/black screen with 12.8 driver sometimes when I change from 2d clock to 3d clock (i.e browsing web then start a game). Got a similar problem with my old Gtx 670 also. Solved that by setting 2d clock to 3d clock at first; later drivers seem to fix this problem.

About playback, I rarely crash (like once a week), but I got some really weird image with the default DXVA or CoreAVC renderer. All of that went away when I finish setting up my comp and switch back to madVR + LAV (which imo looks better than DXVA or CoreAVC).

Hope that helps ;)

hi thanks for reply ill try these to start with, one thing i didnt mention was i had a 7970 standard before this 1 and never had an issue i was hoping it was a driver issue as i think i updated to latest when i install this one

also looking at the ccc the activity and power show 0% is that correct??
