Just wanted to let you know my experience with this particular card.

Got it delivered today to replace my 680 SLI set up. My reasoning to replacing such great cards was there was just too much power for what i needed. They didn't scale too well and best part of the time the gpu load wasn't exceeding 70%, occasionally ramped up to 80%.
I'm in the process of selling the two cards which will give me what i payed for the MSI 7970 and a lot of pennies to put away for a rainy day!

I always wanted to overclock but found my cards where poor overclockers, which was quite unlucky because they where both as poor as each other.

So i decided to try the red team for a change and heard great things about the MSI 7970 Lightning. I bought this card for £350, which i thought was fantastic, especially with the free game bundle! Which i might say, sleeping dogs is prity fun!
I've done a little bit of overclocking and got the core to 1250mhz and the memory to 1600mhz, which is a good starting point for me.
After battling the 120hz problem that comes with these cards the performance is fantastic!

There isn't a whole difference between the two cards, the temps are almost identical, although i find the ATI slightly hotter on load, only by a few degrees.
I find crysis 2 and battlefield 3 to give a few more frames, but im guessing this is down to the new drivers, which im sure Nvidia will combat.

Anyways ive digressed a lot just want to let you know my experience with this card, its great! Oh and the blue LED's all over it are awesome :D!

I've always wanted one, but for me it would mean selling one of my ref+block cards just to swap with a lightning+block lol...hardly worth it.

Glad it's all worked out for you though.
Pretty sure there was a whole thread dedicated to the lightning somewhere? Not to worry though.

Glad to know your liking the new card. I bought the same card really enjoying mine too. Your one seems to be a good overclocker too.

Yeah its awesome, the MSI cards looks awesome too, didn't realize they had blue LED's all over them! Makes my case light up :D

Oh if anybody wants a free 20% of medal of honor warfighter code let me know, i already have it, it sucks :(

i just got one of the to and having an issue with the card seemingly crashing, all i get is a gray background with black lines going vertically, the odd this is the pc hasn't crashed just the card i could here the audio going as normal. also the only times it has crashed is while being on the desktop, Firefox or watching a video, not once while gaming and the event viewer doesn't record a problem.

hoping its a driver issue?

Got mine last week also, watercooled it and running a stable 1250/1600 :)

To the OP - are you changing any voltage settings or leaving it on auto? Tempted to play with the voltages and see how stable I can get it with minimal voltage but not done it before!

Seems like one must be really lucky to get a 7970 Lightning and hitting 1300+ on air.

Mine's stable at 1260/1750 also. Anything higher and I'll get BSOD.

IIRC, one user here on OC had similar problems with firefox + flash and resolved it by updating Flash player.

Hey bud, ive changed the voltage to 1.25v and its seems rock solid stable. Im not really sure how far you can push the voltage but i was told 1.3v is still quite a safe zone.

thanks ill try that

This is the card I'm currently looking at getting. Good to hear you and the others like it.

Wish I could find it at that price.

Cheers, had seen that price but hadn't heard about that place before so wasn't sure.

Yeah, im quite dubious about ordering from new places but couldn't warrant paying more from OCUK, which is a shame as i love to buy my bits and bobs from here.
All is good though and speedy delivery!

Whats 30 quid when you are spending over 300? Youd rather hand 350 notes to somewhere it may go wrong and may have terrible after sales service than 380 to a reputable company who have great aftercare? Mad imo.

Not really when it has **** loads of positive reviews, that was £350 with next day Saturday delivery. I wouldn't be as stupid to buy from a random company. I was saying im very dubious about trying new company's that i have never used before...
