Hi have one of these arriving tomorrow

Have since found out a problem that the neither ports have duel DVI-I so cannot run at 1440p as Monitor only has Duel DVI input.

Crazy that this information is not listed anywhere on flagship model,(all other makes seem to have one) have spoken to OverClockers and they find this model confusing as well and have told me to refuse delivery.

Any suggestions on a GPU around £350 or a cable fix to get around this that will match or better the Lightning.

Thanks Nigel

Just checked and I thought it would come with a display port adapter but somebody else will have to confirm. Give OcUK a ring if no quick answer.

Appologies if I am wrong.

Hi Maximus

I had the following included with my Lightning

Accessories that where included in the box

  • Crossfire Bridge
  • DVI>HDMI adaptor
  • Mini DP>DP adaptor
  • 6 to 8 pin power adaptor x2
  • V-Check point cable x3

Does your monitor have a DP port? Otherwise you have to get a DP/DVI adaptor...

MSI did throw a curveball in to this video card. The rear I/O panel includes a Single-Link DVI-D and Single-Link DVI-I connector, and 4 mini-DisplayPort connectors. The problem with this, is that Single-Link DVI connectors can only carry 1920x1200 resolution. There is no Dual-Link DVI connector or HDMI connector on the MSI R7970 Lightning video card. If you are using a larger monitor or expect a resolution higher that 1920x1200 you will either need to make sure your monitor has a mini-DP or DP adaptor, or you will need to purchase a active DVI adaptor which can cost anywhere from $50 to $200 dollars. The plus side to the design that MSI chose to go with on the I/O panel is that this single video card has Eyefinity 6 Display capability. In other words, you can run 6 displays off the MSI R7970 Lightning!

[Edit]

I should have read you OP better, you said you only have dual DVI :o
Looks like your only option for this card is an active DVI adaptor. :(

Thanks for all the replys

Cannot find many Amd 7000 series that have 2 dvi-i outs one being a duel and those that do seem to have a dip switch disabling one to duel dvi.

Amd GPUs seem to have cut two many corners with this series as im not prepared to ditch 2 perfectly good monitors.

Going team green any recommendations on a 680 series that will match or better 7970 lightning @1440p

Thanks for any replies Nigel

680s can't keep up with 7970s at that resolution unfortunately, due to gimped memory bus.

What about the Giga 7970 GHz WF? That has DLDVI.

Right have read that a lot of AMDs have dip switches, am I reading this right from their website. I need a Duel link DVI and a single DVI working at same time for both monitors

ASUS HD 7970 Matrix Platinum 3 GB

Display connectivity options include two DVI ports and four DisplayPorts. You may use all outputs at the same time. Using the dual BIOS feature allows you to switch the output configuration between 1x dual-link DVI and 1x single-link DVI with fewer DP ports, or 2x single-Link DVI with all DP ports enabled.

If you have got enough room in your PC grab a Asus 7970 matrix platinum. It has DL DVI and performance to match the lightning. The downside is its a triple slot card, limited to air cooling and the GPU tweak software could be better.

Thanks for that space not an issue but will it run duel link DVI and single link DVI at the same time

Well what about going for a card with 1x DLDVI and a HDMI and then using a HDMI to DVI converter? That would give you more purchasing options.
