msi 8800gt zalman temp problem

Hello
i got my new card today but have a serious temp problem,

I am running vista x64

idle my temps are around 70c, has anyone got any ideas on what could be causing it?

Take the sides of your case see if its your case temps making it get hot.remeber its not got a blower so a lot of the heat is going in your case.But 70c idle for a gt with a zalman cooler on it does seem abit high tbh.

I have already removed my side panel,

I have the Kandalf case so tems insiode shouldnt be a problem,

the ambiant temp of the card is only 39c

I have tried an older set of drivers but still had no luck, as soon as i load upo a game and play for 5mins it reaches 100+

My setup is as follows:

msi kn9 diamond (mobo)
ozc pc6400 2gig (mem)
msi 8800gt zalman (GFX)
5600+ amd (CPU)

GFX mem temp: 65c
GFX GPU temp: 73c

So i take it the card was new and came with the cooler (zalman) already on it.If so RMA that back.I would suggest taking the cooler of puting some as5 on it and refitting but if its new send it back m8.

PS. does the fan spin up at any point when your gaming?As if its hitting 100+ the fan should ramp straight up to 100% well before it hits that.What psu have you got may i ask.Also monitor the fan speeds as well as the temps when gaming.That is if its not one of the ones suck on 100% all the time.

Indeed with that cooler you should not be having any problems one of the better designs.

I have read reviews where they have overclocked a good amount and still only reached 74c on load,

I have just tried it on my xp drive and its the same, as i thought it might be a problem with vista,

I really dont know what to do,

no the fan dont seem to boot up, from when i turn it on its virtually silent no matter what i do, the fins on the fan arnt even all that hot to be honest,

(Tagen 480w) dont run any fancy lights or nothing, just the usual stuff

Hmm i would think that psu would handle it np.And i would have thought the fan would have got faster would it started overheating.Get rivatuner and monitor that fan

But i would RMA that maybe LeeTaylor17 can let ya know if his fan speed's up.

Got this card too. Idles at 44 and maxes out at 60 on the factory clocks. The fan is completely silent and I've never noticed it speed up. I would say the board should be sent back - a badly mounted cooler would be my guess.

i have just 9installed nTune and the fan is set to 29%, so i have increased it to 100% and it idles at 64c but reaches 100+ when in game for only a few minutes,

I dont know what to do cos if i rma it ill probably just have the same problem but have to wait weeks for a replacment

not sure weather it would be worth setting up water on it either with temps that high anyway, (but i shouldnt have to)

I would reseat the cooler if you can. It's probably a bad contact like somebody else has already mentioned.

i even took the card out to make sure there wasent a cover on the fan or something stupid like that lol

Just be gentle cause if you do end up sending it back you wont get a replacement or refund if they can tell you have had the sink of.Hope it helps ya and good luck.

OMG,

I took it down my brothers so i could try it in his, just incase i had an issue with my comp,

Had the same results as me but like me he said the fins on the cooler wernt hot enough to be that temp,

We took the cooler of and you know the plastic protective film used to protect the heatsinkl surface,

IT WAS STILL ON, Yes the plastic film was still in place, lol with thermal paste all over it,

so obviously removed it, put more paste on and now its idle at 38c and load is 50c
