MSI 980Ti > EVGA 1080 Ti - Worthwhile upgrade?

Hi

I've seen a used EVGA GTX 1080Ti SC2 for £300. I'm tempted as it's a good price and I can sell on the 980Ti for £125(ish?), so would cost me roughly £175. Also the 10 series card will be compatible with my FreeSync display, whereas the 9 series card is not

The other option is to keep my 980ti and save for an upgrade to a Ryzen 3600x/3700x/2070 Super/5700 XT based rig.

My current setup:

Thermaltake Urban T81 Full-Tower
Thmeraltake Toughpower XT 675w
Asus Maximus VII Ranger
Intel i5-4690K
Corsair H100i
16GB (4x4GB) Avexir PC3-12800, DDR3-2666 CL11
MSI GeForece GTX 980 Ti GAMING 6G
Dell S2719DGF 27" QHD 2560 x 1440 at 155 Hz

Thanks in advance :)

Thank you for your comments. The 1080Ti could be a fair upgrade while I save up which will probably be a few months, perhaps I wouldn't even lose money on it. It's also my birthday this month so I'd get a little money from my pops which would make it even less.

I'll see if I can get it for less than the £300 asking, fingers crossed.
