I know the Gaming edition is in red but is the Lightning edition in red anywhere? The Lightning yellow would knock my colour scheme awry.

Anyone got a 980Ti Gaming MSI that can comment? Is it "£100 less than Lightning" noticeable?

Aside from 3 fans on Lightning v 2 on the Gaming, is it worth the £100 extra for 25+Mhz on the core?

Yellow only on the lightning as that is msi's oc range signature colour, found on their x and m mobos too. Red on gaming series boards. Got the gaming edition 980ti here in a yellow accented mpower msi board. Does look a bit odd but its a great card. A lightning would look better but tbh I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of swapping cards.

Would there be an option to take the shroud off, spray it red and stick it back on again or are we looking at warranty issues if that happens? I have a 970 Gaming MSI but I'll be jumping to a 980Ti at some point. WOndered if the spray option would work.

It can be done yes, but warranty will be voided id say. A user on here done this on a pair of lightnings, 680's I think. He had a red themed build based around an Asus Rog board. I actually had a red theme z87 4790k setup based on a Maximus 6 formula with which I used the 980ti with briefly. Looked great together. But got an offer for the board, cpu and ram in sig that was too good to ignore.

Whether you'll notice the difference is down to how much of an overclocker you are. The Lightnings tend to be designed with people like 8pack in mind.

If you are gaming, then funnily enough the gaming edition will be great.
