MSI Afterburner 1.4 Released

The main benefit from the unlocked bios, that when you overclock you don't lose poweplay, so in idle mode clocks and voltage will go down, but with locked bios, you lose all powerplay functions, and the card will only run in 3d clocks and voltage that will cause higher temp and power consumption at idle.

yes with the msi bios, you will notice the tick box in rbe [edited by rbe], and so far RBE doesn't support 5850 yet, it doesn't recognize the device id, which some reported issue with CCC

From the source. That's from a MSI rep and the Author of Afterburner

We used ATI official tool that provide to AIB to modifiy the BIOS setting and BIOS is digitally signed by ATI, sorry the tool can't be released publicly. And yes, we will apply it to MSI 5850 (also 2nd shippment of 5870, and future 5700 series).

The person who provided it in this thread is MSI rep. That's official MSI BIOS digitally signed by AMD.

This BIOS is digitally signed by ATI validation system, the system will check all the function in the BIOS, there is no way for us to pass validation if we break anything. (powerplay or hash)

ahh. awesome!! just the solution im looking for then! as atm i dont overclock atall because of this problem :/ damn annoying, can you hook me up with the bios and some instructions? its been a while since i was flashing my old 4870x2 xD
Thanks =]

sorry but if it official bios, why RBE detect this bios as "BIOS has been pre-modified with RBE" but with the ASUS bios it doesn't show that.

here is the MSI bios posted by Garett_WU if someone want to check it with RBE.

Lol, I've no idea why some third party app ticks a box. Unwinder's a liar? I'm more inclined to believe the official rep and the actual author of Afterburner and Rivatuner than some app with a dodgy flag. Both the MSI bioses 5870/5850 tick the box, hardly definitive proof it was edited by RBE.

Here is the official ASUS 5870 unlocked:

for flashing, use a bootable USB stick, put the bios file and ATIFlash 3.75
and use this command: atiflash.exe -f -p 0 biosname.rom

Well, i dont know if its the new msi version or the asus bios i flashed to, but now i get 45-50fps at night time in rain on gta iv same settings as above, instead of 32 fps!

need to check for stability but looking good...

I didn't try the msi, because the msi bios is modded with RBE, and some ppl reported that RBE caused stability issue with their 5850.

Not true it came straight from MSI.

We haven't receive mass production bios of 5850, I will release it once I have it.

well i actually got no boost at all, or any noticeable difference with the Asus bios.

silly old me didnt realise after flashing the card, CCC reset the 3D options and for some reason it set the 3D profile to High Performance, and also for some reason the resolution in gta iv changed, hence running the game @ 60hz instead of 30hz (for some reason it was set at) would make me think the game was running faster.

I see no benefit running this Asus bios over the MSI one, i also found this new Afterburner to be no more stable then the last, the only difference was the skin colors and 2 extra options.

Im seriously in need of some more firepower here when running games @ 1920x1080, most i can get away with, but gta and crysis need the extra whoomp.

need some help overclocking my 5870 please =]
well. im trying for 1000mhz, is this resonable? what voltage range should i be looking at? note im also at 1300mhz on the memory. is this ok?
Thanks
