MSI Afterburner, affecting performance?

Ok now this might sound a little illogical but I've done some testing and it "appears" to be the case.

Recently i've noticed that when I'm not running AB I get better performance in games / benchmarks (Tomb Raider / 3DMark).

I've tried both stock and with a slight overclock in CCC & replicate settings in AB, but performance is worse when running AB.

Does CC do anything differently? I'm using the overdrive section under performance to OC.

I'm using AB 17 and two 7990s & verifying clock speeds in GPU-Z.

Anyone got any ideas? Or seeing the same?

Thanks ! :)

Interesting. I will test this later myself. Are you running overlays? Have you tried turning those off while benching?

Is AB using more ram?

It might show as using more RAM but that's due to crossfire and the fact it's incorrectly displaying the VRAM usage. So half for 2 cards and so on...

No overlays, but I see a lot less FPS with AB.

You need to kill AB, re-adjust the card settings using CCC and overdrive (check it's changing using GPU-Z) and re-run a bench.

Let me know if you see the same?

I can't clock past 1100 core and 1575 on VRAM using CCC though (stock voltage), only way I can think of is to set the clocks via BIOS manually... Would mean re-flashing each time.

Weird I hadn't noticed before but I've got a 7fps drop in bf4 with AB turned on

All the logging is processed by the cpu so shouldn't be affecting it.

Doesn't make much sense.

I realised a few nights ago that running afterburner was affecting my performance, I tried it turning off all monitoring and since then its fine, I would suggest trying it with all the monitoring off just set your clocks and voltage.
