the most interesting thing about voltage increases and overclocking is, a normal 5850, with same clocks as a 5870, is the same speed, and with slightly increased clocks, is faster.
Looks like the cards might be rop limited(still) meaning the loss of 10% shaders really hasn't hurt the 5850 at all. SO if you can get a 5850, increase the voltage and overclock either to a 5870, or to the same overclocks a 5870 can get, you might essentially have the same card in all but 3dmark.
Seems strange the lack of shaders at equal clocks didn't once give a difference across any game I've seen tested with an overclocked 5850 vs 5870.
Which would only be bad news for Nvidia really, as it means everyone can just buy the cheaper version this time around.

WOW again, you can actually set the fanspeeds to anything you want
by clicking on the boxes and draging the line where you want it to go, this was only ever possible via editing the ati cards bios`s and setting profiles but it can all be done on a sofrware level now.

Installed it to have a look around my 4890, in settings there is a "master graphics processor selection" box at the top when you first open, I'd guess you might be able to choose between cards there, go back and it will effect the other core. Theres also a synchronise similar cards setting, which is enabled by default on mine but with a single card. Might need ticking in crossfire.
Might just be able to do one card, set that as profile one, then change to the other card in settings and save that as profile two, you'd have to play around.
Seen people on xtreme sys push 1050mhz on the core using 1.4v on the core with the fan up at 70% with fine temps and "seemingly" no problems yet.
Just tried 1.2v, 5870@900/1250
Vantage extreme GPU score went from 8004 to 8519, no idea if it's stable
900 is easy
you dont even need to up the voltages on the GPU at all for 900 core
im pritty sure every 5870 can hit the max CCC of 900 core on default voltage.
cause mine can hit 900 core 1300 on both cards on default.
Run it for a long period in the games you play. Some people will say you need to run furmark or occt for hours but I don't agree with that, they place stresses on the card that just won't be seen in real world applications.

yup, seen quite a lot of people hit 1.4Ghz on mem, including 5850's, which I think gives even less reason to go for the 5870, cheaper less capable gddr5 would again be a reason to go for the better memory on a 5870, but thats not seemingly the case. Nor does overclocking the memory give much performance at all.
The thing is, I think everyone rumoured/predicted that the 5850 would have less ROPs aswell, which would likely have made it significantly slower even at the same clocks. But as the cards seem ROP limited, the 5850 having the same ROP's means its going to be a killer card once overclocked.
THe bigger pcb, probably better power circuitry and the likes means probably max clocks will rest with the 5870 easily, but the early clocks seen in reviews, the difference probably won't be enough to justify the extra cost.

Well i have been fiddleing some more
and it seems no matter what i try when i set voltages to 1.220v only 1 card master is clocking up
but my other card is still at default voltages.
i tryed synced, unsynced setting both voltages in the software seperatly
i just dont get it lol
i cant overclock with this software with this big flaw heh

Looks like a great app, much more user friendly than trying to do it with the current choices (rivatuner etc..) and it has the great rivatuner monitoring software (its rivatuner based).
Does it only apply the increased voltage in 3d mode too? Because I've only found one ATI app that does that, most apply it constantly.

It's just a shame that its GUI is horrible.
Most Taiwanese hardware manufacturers are totally rubbish at making nice interfaces anyway, they're always over-the-top too much.
