MSI Afterburner Tips ? Hot GPU Temp

Hey guys.

I just got a GTX580 Twin Frozr 2 OC edition: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-116-MS

The card is great and I'm running BF3 on really high settings at a good fps.
The only issue is the card temperature is going beyond 85, sometimes up to 95 when playing Metro 2033 on ultra.

I will be getting a new case for Christmas which hopefully will help airflow etc.
In the mean time will turning down the Core Clock and Memory Clock in MSI Afterburner improve temperatures. I have fan settings to boost up when the temperature hits about 70.

I know I could test this myself but I don't know much about overclocking or in this case underclocking, and don't want to mess up my card in some way.

Any tips or know any ways I can reduce the temp while playing games. Thanks

You shouldn't have to down clock your card, and yes a better case and air flow will help.

But take a look at this guide in the mean time, as it might help your heat issues for now.

Thanks for the reply. I already have my fan set up to 100% when it hits 75 degrees. However it still goes above that temperature.

I tried removing the side panel of the case which lowered the temp by about 10-15 degrees, but I don't really want to continue doing that.

I guess I will have to turn down game settings till I get a new case.

I wouldn't worry about Afterburner till you get a decent case.

Silverstone Raven is one of the best air coolers available.

I don't own the case, so couldn't comment, but it does get a lot of recommends in the case section, so I would imagine if set up properly with good fans it will work.

Do you think the one I linked to would be sufficient, because the price is cheaper.
That Cooler Master HAF 912...you would ideally need to add a 120mm/140mm fan to the side-panel as exhaust to help remove the heat that get dumped into the case by the Twin FrozRII cooler of your GTX580 to further reduce the temp.
