I think I read somewhere on the forum about this a few months back but can't find it, the CPU, 10105F is running at full speed all the time, 4200 to 4300 even when under no load. My last CPU, 9100F dropped right down to about 800 I think when not on load. I am guessing that it's just some setting on the board but never had to change anything on last board which was ASUS.

In the BIOS check EIST and C states. In Windows check the power plan.

I'd be surprised if the BIOS had these disabled by default.

I think it doesn't really matter. The CPU automatically switches off to the lowest power state, even if it remains invisible for the software and Windows.
I wouldn't care too much about the CPU frequency readings in Windows.

Thanks for replies, I changed power plan to balanced and it did the trick down to 800 now, thing is I never changed that setting in windows before I swapped out MB and CPU. New it was something simple but couldn't remember.

I've read that some monitoring/motherboard software can mess with the power plans, so if you installed those, it might have been it.
