Hi, I've got a Ryzen 2700 in an MSI B450 gaming pro carbon ac motherboard, I've just bought a 5900X from O/C as its been discounted, Looking on the MSI support website the only updated bios i can find is 7B85v17 which supports Ryzen 3000 CPU's, Will my 5900X work with this bios? If not any info on what i need would be much appreciated Cheers.

You mean the BIOS from 2022-01-26? I think (from my reading of the compatibility chart) that MSI means that this BIOS does support Zen 3.

Ah right! I scrolled down the Bioses untill i saw one that actually mentioned CPU support DOH! So the 7B85v1F7 (Beta) 2022-1-26 should be OK for a 5900X? Cheers.

I think so, it is the latest beta and that's what MSI says you need. It is a bit ambiguous, they should state the version number.

The next AGESA MSI mentions, 1.2.0.6c, says it has support for the 5800X3D, so my assumption would be that you have Zen 3 support with 1.2.0.5.

Cheers for the help Tetras, I've decided that my daughters FX8120 Bulldozer PC can upgrade to my 2700 and pro carbon mobo, I've just ordered an MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk for my 5900X, I've just read about problems with the B450 carbon ac blackscreening etc with a 5000 series cpu, I just want a hassle free experience!

i have working 5900x on my b450 carbon ac, but i find info about manual bios set up.

You need to set up

precision bost overdrive - 3

Was probably an issue from an early bios, the latest bios should work fine now.

I've had a 5800X running on my msi b450 tomahawk for over a year now with no black screens.

5900x its not stable on b450 carbon ac with last bios -7b85v1F7, until you set up the power management manual, MSI support knows about that, you can easily find more information how set up bios for 5900x in google.
