hi guys

posting from my phone so could do with some suggestions from others who are able to access search engines without the limitations of doing it on a smartphone.

I have an MSI x79ma-gd45 which I have had to bios update today to get working with my keyboard.

essentially i have updated the bios using the flash utitlity within the bios and now the system will not post.

this is the first time i have tried an MSI board and honestly, I am far from impressed.

upon restart, the system gives out six beeps and stays turned on. but there is no post.

tried all the usuals, clrcmos etc but nothing. can anyone come up with any other conclusion than the board being bricked?

as i say, first time using an msi board so open to suggestions.

That may be a corrupted BIOS chip, not MSI's fault.
Did you use the utility or the manual update?
I used the usb flash utitlity. without wishing to sound condescending, I have done this literally hundreds of thousands of times.

It's strange that the one time I use an msi board rather than an Asus or gigabyte, a simple bios flash using a proven flash utitlity completely bricks the board.

Found this rjk:

Remove keyboard and see if it posts?

Edit, also this:
right. good advise. I removed my keyboard and now it has no beeps. instead it just goes into a boot cycle and still doesn't post.

its my day off tomorrow. I will take my pc into work and buy the rampage gene like I should have done in the first place.

I may even set this msi board on fire.

clunky, unintuitive, restrictive...

i would go on but it's not worth it. In all my time working with high end computer hardware on a daily basis, churning out 40%+ overclocks commercially on a variety of hardware, I have never had an issue like this.

I cannot wait until an MSI rep is in our office.

I doubt I will be able. to repair a board by re flashing the bios if it doesn't post. to. start with.
Bit of a design flaw tbh
