Hi

Just installed the MSI GTX 780 Gaming Edition and I have just ran the MSI gaming App.
Now when i first run it the app states my card is running at 324mhz which seems incredibly low.
The presets show the following readings-
OC Mode:1045mhz
Gaming Mode:1045mhz
Silent Mode:324mhz

Does this seem right?

324mhz will be the card downclocking at idle to save power. Perfectly normal as both my cards show similair on the desktop. Once in game theyll crank up to their boost clocks.

Well that's a relief.

So I take it without the app my card will be running at it's preset OC but if i run the app say in gaming mode ill get a small boost is that right?

Appreciate the advice i'll probably uninstall it then.

I have afterburner installed and at the moment im really using it to control fan speeds but ill try a wee overclock once i find a guide to show me how :)

Don't worry if you don't see max core speeds in games either, for example Dota 2 is a fairly weak graphical game and my 670s can output a solid 120 FPS at around ~700Mhz instead of reaching my defined clocks.

I've just ran 3DMark the demo version and my scores aren't that big a jump compared to my old MSI GTX 570. Do these look right?

MSI GTX 570 MSI GTX 780
Ice Storm 101014 102786
Cloudgate 15022 17970
Firestrike 3995 7867

There's clearly a big increase in Firestrike but minimal in the others, any thoughts?

Those could be right (not too sure), the jump in Firestrike is a very healthy one.

What CPU do you have and is it OC'd? It's possible the lower end benchmarks are being hindered by that.

Yeah my money would be on them holding you back, especially if it's not OC'd. Might wanna give that a go and it'll give you some better performance.

Ideally a platform update would be the best option but obviously costs.
