Hi all!

So with so much choice out there in gaming notebooks - what features would you like to see us do?

What specs would you like to see at OCUK?

Any particular configuration?

At OCUK we usually put the notebooks with the highest spec (870M/880M) in stock....but if there is something you are all interested in then I am sure we can tailor a model if we get enough interest.

Any suggestions let us know!

Before people say, I want to add the following :

*SLI - something we are considering later on in the year or early next year

*I know gaming laptops are not for everyone, but this is really aimed at those who really like them, so if you are ONLY a desktop fan, than I don't think is post is really for you.

Also if anyone has ANY questions they would like to ask me about any MSI notebooks - please feel free to do so.

Thanks all in advance!

Thank You

Hi all,

Thanks for all the feedback.

It's good to hear things that people want so we can always try to improve what is important.

I will pass this back onto HQ.

If you have anymore suggestions, keep them coming.

Thanks again!

Your chassis designs are often tacky and plasticky GT series), and do not give a great impression of quality.

In addition, you use Kepler 860m instead of Maxwell... that is a reason Gigabyte et al are selling so well.

Finally, the audio in the laptops could certainly be improved... check out the Lenovo Y50 for inspiration.

Thanks for the feedback!

The GT series actually comes with a brushed metal top cover and KB surround. The only part which is plastic are the sides and bottom to which I think most NB's are. It is something we can improve in the future for sure, maybe a FULL metal chassis - I will feed this back to our R&D.

The GT chassis only comes in 870M/880M but our 860Ms are selling very well despite being Kepler.

Most of our GE & all of our GS/GT come with Dynaudio, which is a very premium speaker audio system. They also come with gold plated inputs which help. I do not know what Lenovo are offering in terms of their audio, but I do believe that we have some of the best sound on current notebooks.

Thanks for the feedback anyway.

Maybe it's just the actual design then... the GT series are blocky and ugly that they give the impression of lower quality even if they're not.

However, your materials and overall build quality (if not designs and thinness) are undoubtedly better than Gigabytes. They really need to improve their quality of materials on mainstream laptops, and almost every critical revie I read/hear says the same.

However, well done for making a feedback thread, shows you are listening to present and potential customers. :)

Thank you :)

I think the GT70 being blocky is a fair comment if I am honest. I think the look of it has improved (new A side cover with logo), but I think that chassis serves a purpose (better cooling and more HD configuration (upto 3 SSD's).

Really appreciate the compliment too. Nice to get some really good points given to me so we can discuss internally.

Thanks again Richdog!

Not necessarily a comment on the laptops, but the website could often do with a proof read!

I have to echo the GT series comments. Alienware are blocky, but look at what they do. smooth edges, with LED lighting. Where as the MSI GT ones do look a bit clevo generic. But yes, absolutely surpassed yourselves with the GS series. Very few companies have gone the ultra gaming book thing. and you're unique in the build quality and materials.

Thanks Evil!

The GT72 aims to bring a better looking chassis to the table. Better lines, more curves etc.

Will post the video up soon :)

most of us dont care about SSD raid
We do care about lots of RAM

I quite like the styling on most of the laptops, but i didnt realise the GT's had plastic on them.

Could you coat the gs series in some anti fingerprint stuff maybe? It loves them, to the point that I think it will be easier to let it all get discolored with finger prints, than to keep it clean lol.

Website needs to be better, proof read (specs get copied around the net) and maybe have the different option models that have been released in each region?

Use better thermal paste. People are reporting drops in temps of up to 8c on some gs models. Its an inexpensive thing to change, and would make components last longer, less noise etc.

Hi

Great feedback once again.

Website has been something we have definitely reported back to HQ and told them to improve on.

I understand your frustration with the fingerprints - that is definitely being looked into as it's the first thing we said when we saw it. It's a stunning machine tho, and I am pretty sure I have OCD when it comes to fingerprints....which means I have a cleaning kit next to me at all times.

Thanks again for your feedback.

As a company all we can do is keep improving. I am confident we have fantastic products, and the amount of GAMING NOTEBOOKS we sell shows this, but as with any company, there is always things we can do better.

All feedback we receive is always discussed internally, so it's not something I am doing to to show "MSI ARE COMMITTED".

It will take time but eventually we will have the perfect machine :)

oh, I dont mind the fingerprints too much, A lot of the work I do is in porter cabins on construction site (Cad technician) so everything its not like anything else is clean lol.

The material is worth the sacrifice, its just if there is some magic coating, maybe some of that water proofing spray which makes all liquid roll off stuff, would stop the oils from finger prints sticking?

I am sure the R&D department will come up with something soon :)

Hey man

Looking at your notebooks in the £800/900 range. Any chance of stocking some with intel / nvidea insides?

Ta

I was just going to say, I need a new laptop in the next 2 weeks and noticed OCUK don't do mid range lappy's. quite disappointed really as not everyone has the budget to suit £900+

some i5, 84/50m 8gb laptops would be awesome!

ON IT!

:) - I will get something sorted next week for sure!

There are so many things I could suggest lol.

For your design team how about a 13" machine with no dedicated GPU but an external port to allow connection to one of your lovely desktop GPUs in a caddy?

You can keep the 13" slim with a reasonable CPU but best of keeping it a full fat quad to let it keep up the the dGPU. Bonus points for optimus working through this on the internal display (dGPU outputs left as is of course). More bonus points to let it take up to an extreme CPU with overclocking options.

For your current machines, reverse the soldered CPU on the GT72 and go with a proper circuit, no compromises on your top machine after all.

For configuration options at ocuk.

Where did all the GT60 machines go?

3k IPS and 1080P IPS options on those (not everyone wants 3k so make sure the 1080p IPS panel is top notch).

Hi Meaker....

I feel you may know things that you are not supposed to know.....

Some of the above is already happening....watch this space!

Im looking to buy a latop in the £650-999 price range this month, something similiar to msi gx60 but with a difference CPU, that is the only thing that put me off from getting it. I personally feel if OCUK can get some decent laptops in the £800 range with the similiar gpu performance, ssd, hdd and atleast an i5 it will be sold very quick

Hi there,

I am in with OCUK tomorrow, and will discuss with them this range. I know they are very eager to bring some in at this price point.

Many thanks

ARJiBEAR

Keep us update, personally feel laptops need to be targeted at £600-800 range, £600 as an entry level into gaming laptops and £800 as entry mid range and etc imo this an open market anything above 1k i just feel get a normal PC instead or just puts people off buying atleast from my point of view thats how i feel.
Most laptops that cost around £800 all seem to lack something either it has a bad cpu, or no ssd, or no OS or even a rather poor gpu like the 840/850m. 860m seems to be decent enough according to some reviews i dunno what the normal prices are for R9 M290X but amd usually tends to be cheaper than intel and that imo is a good gpu.

Hi,

I think the issue is that, the price point have to be met, and the most expensive parts of the NB (besides our chassis which are built and designed in house with great features) are the CPU & GPU. Something has to give to get to the price of £800ish

I will discuss with Gibbo & OCUK tomorrow and see what we can do for you guys!

ARJiBEAR

any updates?

OCUK will be having some decent gaming units between £749-999 from October on-wards.

They will range from 840M - 860M (some with an SSD).

More details will be revealed once the set ups have been done.

Hope this helps!

ARJiBEAR

no R9 M290X ? also is it easy to install an ssd to the laptops and transfer windows to it? will we see some i5 or all these going to be i7s (most seem to be i7s) just asking this as id like an i5 with a 860m at a decent price

At the moment R9 M290X are not on the cards, but possible towards the end of the year/early next year we may have a unit.

Some units will be I5 but not the "U" version.

Most will be I7 :)

ARJiBEAR

Hopefully there is an option similar to the MSI GS60-2PL available in some other regions, which has the GTX 850m with an i5 processor, SSD & normal HDD combo and an IPS screen.

I am looking for a lightweight chassis and processor which is good for battery life, but also has a reasonable graphics card and high quality 15" display. This seems to fit the bill, but it's a hard spec to find with out spending insane amounts of money :/

Hi all

I can confirm the GS60 2PL will be available, but not at the price point you have suggested.

The GS60 notebook is a very high end chassis. The spec suggested will be available in an GE 2pl at approximately the price you said above.

I was at first thinking about building an MITX for my casual gaming (working in london tiny room) and for lans and stuff, and just read 980m is about to be announced and performance seems to be up there, MSI please release a model with 980m asap and take my money!!!!!

Hi all

I see allot of people discussing things I cannot discuss!

So therefore....just know....that we will more than likely be first to market with any new gaming notebook specs!

Hi, sorry I'm late to the party here, but maybe you can answer my concern. I will soon have a requirement to buy a 15.6" thin & light gaming laptop that either comes with 16GB RAM, or will allow me to upgrade it without voiding the warranty. The RAM in the GS60-2PC is not user upgradeable - will this restriction continue in the next wave of models?

Hello!

So the only models that are difficult to upgrade are the GS models.

All others are really quite simple (back cover and there you go).

The GS models CAN be upgraded by yourself, but they are a little bit harder to do so.

The warranty is NOT void if you do this. The warranty WILL be void if you damage anything whilst doing this.

In simple terms, if you are very careful in upgrading you will be fine.

Most of our new models arriving next month will come with 16GB standard. Therefore no upgrading needed at all.

If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact me on :
