Well, i saw FinglisHobbit write a 2 month review on his MSI and thought i'd do the same for mine!
I moved from an alienware M14x R1 after 3 years for reference!
Screen - 1080p at 15.6". I wanted the 15.6" over the 17" for portability. And it doesn't disappoint. Its vibrant, bright, no backlight issues. Its a great step up from the 1600 x 900 14" on my alienware. Theres a little flex, but thats to be expected in a machine this thin!
Keyboard - Superb! The alienware had, what it calls, a "hybrid mechanical". That was good. But i can honestly say i prefer the steel series keyboard! The travel is good, no flex at all, love the backlighting. Its a tad odd having a huge # key, but its easy to get used to the windows key having moved. I can understand the rationale!
Performance - 2.5Ghgz i7 with 16gb Ram an a GTX 870m GPU. This thing FLIES! Its chewed through everything i've thrown at it! I'm REALLY impressed with the nvidia GPU! Watchdogs looked glorious! Crysis needs to be dialled down a touch, but i know people with 880 that have to do that! The speed of the OS combined with the twin SSD's is great! boots up in next to no time! Win 8 really isn't as bad as people say! I've quite enjoyed the transition from win 7.
Weight - what weight? This thing is so light compared with my previous laptops! (XPS 1710, XPS 1730, Alienware M14x). Even my missus has stopped complaining about the weight of my laptop now! Dont get me wrong, if you're expecting iphone weight, you're in for a surprise! but under 2kg is superb for the performance!
Aesthetics - gorgeous! I fell in love with this thing the moment linustech showed us a youtube preview! And it didn't disappoint in real life. All my gaming laptops have been gorgeous. The XPS was all full of lights! The alienware with its red skin was a dream! But the MSI is just something else! understated in black, with a bright backlit keyboard and nice backlit gaming logo on the rear of the screen. It feels more grown up. like a secret weapon that people dont know about. Not so fast and furious as the alienware systems. More angry ninja!
Build quality - Li-Mg alloy chassis, aluminium around the keyboard and rear of the screen. Just a plastic bezel for the screen. Its a mere 2cm thin, albeit slightly wider than the usual 15.6" laptops. great backlit keyboard. decent sound considering the size! its sturdy with very little flex. Its a beauty to behold! Feels like it will last a long time!
Cooling - Not bad! to be fair, its not fair to grade a machine like this on heat. Its only got a finite amount of space for heat pipes. But it does well. Normal use its cool and quiet with a gentle whoosh. under load, it becomes an air hungry beast! sucking in as much as it can using its 2 fans and blowing it out the bottom and sides. It cant be put on a lap at this point, far too hot underneath! But its fine on a desk. After gaming, it cools back down fast and idles quietly again. This is no different to any gaming laptop I've ever had! The alienware was mightily toasty!
Mouse pad - average really. it drives my missus up the wall, so i had to turn off all the gesture commands. but you get used to it. I mainly use my roccat kone mouse.
I would absolutely recommend this laptop to anyone! in fact, so far i've recruited 4 people to the dragon army as new owners of MSI GS60 ghost's! Its just so hard not to love it! Especially as all the people are now older and wanted a lighter machine for travel!
