This will be used while i'm offshore for 4 weeks at a time. It needs to be able to play games like Battlefield, CS:Go, Arma etc. Not worried about running at max fps but obviously needs to perform well.

Battery life isn't an issue, neither is portability.

I would suggest this OcUK Limited Edition P170EM

The HD 7970m is far faster.

Plus you can fit the following later on:

1. mSATA SSD.
2. Up 2 x 2.5" HDD's.
3. If you fit a caddy in place of the optical drive you can fit a third 2.5" HDD.
4. Can take upto 32gb ram.
5. I have one with a GTX 680M and it is pretty good :)

Configuring the above build linked to the same spec at the MSI is a little under 1300 and will be have more horse power imo.
 
That's expensive vs a lenovo Y500 that's 500 cheaper and will be just as quick with the GPU clocked to 675gtx core speeds. My gt650m is clocked to 1150mhz core and 2800mhz mem. its the same GPU. It will play those games you mention on high/ultra.
 
Is your Y500 a single 650m or SLI? I heard something about an SLI gt650m version which was meant to be the dogs whatchamacallits for the price if I remember correctly
