OurGT72 is a veritable powerhouse, scoring in excess of 7200 points in 3DMark 11 with its NVIDIA GTX 870M graphics card. However, the next generation of MSI GT72 seems to have a bit more performance...

The best news is for those of you who already own a GT72 – you will be able to get your hands on this performance without exchanging your full system. The 3DMark runs above are run on the exact same GT72.

Wow that's some performance increase from these new cards. My 870m is perfectly fine but the next gen might have me buying the missus a laptop next year lol.

980m is pretty much a desktop 970 with slower core and men clocks. Will be a fantastic GPU in a laptop...

Been waiting to get my hands on a GT72 for ages now. Glad they are finally coming.
 
980m has a core clock of 1038Mhz and 1536 cuda cores with up to 4GB DDR5 at 256bit 2500Mhz.

970m has a core clock of 924Mhz and 1280 cuda cores with up to 3GB DDR5 at 192bit 2500Mhz

£2k for the base 980M model GT72... Nearly £400 over the 880m model :confused:

I think the price is a little bit of a micky take tbh.

Hey MOOGLEYS

The price difference is not something that we take lightly.

Of course when NVIDIA release something new as fast this, they always increase the price.

Also when they know they are releasing, they always lower the price of the 880M so then the gap looks even bigger on release of the 980M.

I can assure you, we are not profiting an extra £400 because we are greedy. The extra costs are there because of an increase in our cost.

I understand mate we all have to pay Nvidia tax... :D

Just feel like I have been waiting for a GT72 for ever and now the wait is going to be a little longer. Hopefully other models will be released soon.

I know man.

Trust me, it's not like we are all sat here just counting the money :/

Nvidia Tax is a real thing - and to be fair with the benchmarks they do seem mega juicy.

Also, not sure about others, but ours comes with 8GB GDDR5 on our 980M which is the highest we can put.

All GT72 are up gradable GPU wise in the future. They use MXM technology so that means when new GPU's come out, we have the option to be able to upgrade. That has to be worth something in itself.

I understand you are annoyed, but really...I have to just say, it's not us just increasing price for no reason :(

They will be coming into the UK 9/10th and OCUK will have stock by Monday to ship out (obviously...things may happen that are out of my control, BUT this is the latest shipping info I have been given).
