Hi everyone,

Looking for some help and advice please, my six year old MSI laptop has stopped powering on?! I know there are issues with my battery not properly charging and I have been having many window messages about 'replacing my battery' and it does charge now and again albeit on a little percentage at a time.
However up to now i have been running the laptop direct using the power cable plugged in at the wall (battery still attached), however last night it refused to come on :/ I have taken battery out and tried to run it that way with no joy, however when I pull out the plug part (3 pin kettle plug female part) from the charging adapter (box male 3 pin) and reconnect I can hear an electric spark so power is there so wondering if its the d/c part on the laptop or the connector(pin) that plugs into the d/c part on the laptop ?
Any suggestions would be welcome, thank you in advance.
Regards
Kris

You need to investigate but if it's a definite click when plugging in it could be the ground protection.

Take pictures of the power port, is it loose? Is there a smell? Any sign of damage? Does removing the GPU let it power on? The CPU?

Basically start at the beginning and if you are not sure use a reliable local repair shop to take a look at it for you.
