Hi

Manage to get myself a new graphics card and noticed that the default fan speed profile basically keeps the fans off until it reaches 60c.

I know the card can deal easily with 60c but was not really concerned too much about saving power and wanted the hardware to be kept in good condition, so i switched from the default fan speed profile to a custom one. The cooler on the MSI Gaming X is pretty good. I havent oc and everything is left at factory clocks and settings.

Is this ok? and do those that have 1080's do something similar?

Thanks

Agreed set it back to default. I too have the GX and have mine set to come on at 60c at 25% (light gaming usually). Then steeply up until 60%=70c etc. Card maxes out at around 65c.

The die is rated to run at 84-91c 24/7 for the duration of its life without failure. Other components are rated a lot higher. So there is plenty of room.

Will running a vastly higher curve let the card live longer? No. if anything your wearing the fans out quicker for a few degrees.

Thanks for the replies, That makes a lot of sense,

Tyler to achieve the above is that using the default profile speeds or did you have to set it to custom between 60%=70c etc. I just couldn't find what the default curve settings were anywhere on the net?

I'm not sure what the default fan curve is but mine is just set to custom and I just played around so it's as cool as possible while also being quiet.

At 50% at 50C the fan will keep bouncing.

The fan will quickly take it below 50C for small loads, at which point it will switch off and then quickly reach 50C. Rinse and repeat.

Early GTX 1080 bioses had this exact problem as they didn't set enough hysteresis.

Ok I think I leave the custom settings alone then and let it automatically regulate itself with factory fan profile.. Thanks for the advise.
