Hi guys just wondering if you can help me with temps.

Just done my 1st gaming build and ive been doing some temp readings and my gpu is around 52 in idle i havnt done any proper in game readins but after 5 mins of gta it was at 68, is this normal or is it a tad too hot ?

Card throttle is at 83c.

Driver will aim to keep card at 71c max if left on auto and fan will turn off under 60c.

Use afterburner to set a custom profile for fan so you can keep card at lower temp but with a bit extra noise if you wish.

Plus you can overclock it a bit too :)
Just read up before trying .

ZERO FROZR

Smart cooling, stay quiet.
MSI’s Twin Frozr V Thermal Designs are equipped with ZeroFrozr technology which was first introduced by MSI back in 2008. ZeroFrozr technology eliminates fan noise in low-load situations by stopping the fans when they are not needed. Compared to other graphics cards, there is no continuous hum of airflow to tell you there’s a powerful graphics card in your gaming rig. This means you can focus on gaming without the distraction of other sounds coming from your PC.

They make it sound fancy. Basically, some 970s (and others) don't spin their fans till a certain load or temp is reached.

Everything is fine. Load temps are good at 68C for GTA V.

Set up a custom fan profile in Afterburner if you like, and you will see the idle temps at 30C or so.

Yea my fans dont spin until it hits 65, maybe i should get them to start spinning at a lower temp just to keep it down, just a tad worried as this is my 1st proper gaming rig and i dont wanna burn it out straight away. Doesnt help i have it in a corsair 250d tho ha

Standard behaviour, fans wont kick on till the card hits 60c,even just watching YT ect can creep up the idle temp its fine.

the card aims to keep the temp below 68c so again its pretty standard. When i ran mine on air i just set a fan profile in afterburner of a flat 25% up until 60c,silent at those speeds and keeps lower idle temps.

Although at 68c the card will throttle back a boost bin its not a an actual dangerous temperature anything under 85c for prolonged use is fine on these cards.

Thanx keep my mind at ease, appreciate everyones reply, im just gonna do a manual fan profile to keep it down atouch

My Strix idles at 28-33c but can get to 73-75 oc'd to 1505mhz when it's hot. Your MSI shouldn't idle at such temps if you're doing nothing, unless there are some background processes that prevent the card from idling completely. However, idle/load temps are a bit random and can vary between cards, especially if you factor in different cases and fan setups. For example, my card gets a bit hotter than most people report for a 970. There was a bloke who posted graphs showing his card not exceeding 55-60c (BF4) under load and mine reaches that within 20 seconds:p

Is it one of those cards whose fan's don't spin up until it reaches 60c?

For reference mine runs at 60 loaded @ 1500/1900, about 28c idle but my fans are always running.
