Hello,

Had this laptop over a week now and it has BSOD'ed on me about 15 times now!

A lot of the times when i put Youtube videos in HD and just now whilst updating the ridiculously slow updater on Battlefield: BC 2.

Anyone else had these problems when they first got there MSI lappy? Anyone got any clues what it could be? Getting bored of it happening now. What should i do to sort it?

Thanks.

Well the thing as died on me now, managed to get it into safe mode for a few minute and screen is just full of purple dots so im guessing i have a dodgy laptop with a dodgy gpu.

Extremely pleased.........

Hia Rybo89.

I own a MSI GX660R with all the original drivers that came with it from MSI and i've never had a problem.

Have you RMA'd it yet?

If not, have u changed any of the drivers to newer ones (ie. ATI Gfx drivers) that have not been updated on MSI's website??

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. I managed to get it working again by reformatting the hard drive. I am still having BSOD's but only when i have adobe flash player installed, i think.

When i play flash HD video online a message will come up about 10 seconds into the video saying adobe flash player as crashed and then a pop up message will come up saying something along the lines of the AMD Graphics as had a error then it will BSOD.

Any way to sort this?

Thanks

Going to have to i think. Just been playing need for speed and it has BSOD on me again and now will not load up anymore... Windows sign comes up then it just BSOD's straight away.

Can now remember why a gave up on pc's a few year ago, guess laptops ain't any better lol.....

Does anyone know if i can just take it into Ocuk so i don't have to post it? No way im paying £30 to post a brand new dodgy laptop back.

Thanks

Not had any issues with mine Rybo, the only thing I have updated is the gpu drivers to the latest ones. Oh scratch that, the only issue I'm having is tryna get audio come through to the tv from the lappy. Not had any BSOD's at all.

That's the proper downside of RMA'img anything (faulty) you have to pay the postage of the defective item back..!

I find mine crashes on Youtube when running on battery power. Try updating the ATI drivers to 11.5b.

Thats unlucky, mine works fine on Youtube on battery.

I've had my GX660R for 3 months and not received one BSOD. I have never changed a driver from when I took it out of the box.

Dunno whether me leaving the original drivers from MSI on and not updating has helped me have a "BSOD free" laptop?

MSI hardly ever update their GPU drivers, if at all ever - slackers!

Poor MSI, they may have not updated the AMD GPU drivers for the GX660R because of instability issues with newer ones from AMD? Have you tried to contact them and discuss?

That's a true statement in certain cases, but when we're talking about gpu drivers and improvements made in later releases (as for gaming) that statement is invalid!

As I said I earlier, I have the original GFX drivers on that came with the GX660R that are approved by MSI. Unless MSI approve an update to a driver, for the GX660R, I do not update.

I have not had one BSOD at all in gaming including new games like Shift II, Dead Space II and older games like Crysis Warhead or when online (youtube) etc.

@ Montegue- In your earlier post you stated that you updated your AMD Gfx driver to the latest one but you are having audio issues. Was that AMD's latest Gfx driver or a MSI approved AMD Gfx driver for the GX660R that you updated

My GX660R's audio comes through to my LCD TV (via HDMI) from the HDMI port on the laptop with no issue on the approved MSI GX660R GFX driver.

This was happening to me as I have previously reported. I brought mine in December.

The problems mainly happened when I used the Turbo button. I reported this to MSI at the start of May and I had the laptop picked up free of change and it was sent to their repair outlet in the UK.

I received the laptop back and turned it on. Everything had been wiped and the repairers said they replaced some components. So turn the thing on push the Turbo button while installing a few things and yes BSOD again.

Sent MSI another request and again the laptop was picked up Friday free of charge and today received notification that the parcel has arrived in Belgium on the way to MSI in the Netherlands.

Not much help why your getting the BSOD but so far MSI have been great to deal with.

Ah dig this thread back up, been on holiday so not had chance to reply.

I couldn't watch any online flash video's with out the lappy BSOD'ing and had the 1 BSOD whilst playing NFS:Hot Pursuit. So i did some messing about and turned off hardware acceleration in the flash settings and everything seems to be fine now. Can watch all types of flash with out a hitch.

If you are unsure how to do this just go on youtube and go onto a video and right click, then go to settings and untick the hardware acceleration.

Hope this helps anyone who is having the same problems.
