Hi everyone,

I've been looking at purchasing a new gaming laptop for some time and it looks like the msi gx660R is simply one of the best for what I need. However I was wondering two things.

So my question is - will overclockers sell the 17" equivalent / gt780 any time soon or should I just buy the gx660R lol :)

Also, is the gx660r customizable - I.e. Putting in a ssd drive.

Cheers,

Shaun

Hello and welcome to the forums.

The only way to find out if they are going to have them in is to contact them directly, by webnote, e-mail or phone.

For the hard drive, I don't know of any laptops where you can't change the drive. It has two drive bays (it's supplied with two in RAID 0) so I don't see why you couldn't change to 1 HDD for storage and an SSD for boot.

edit: wrt hard drive. here's a picture of the bottom of the laptop:

so you have to take the whole bottom off which requires un-doing screws rather than a nice slide out thing, but it doesn't look too taxing.

Brilliant thanks for your help I'll contact them shortly. How does the ATI 5870 compare to the nvidia gtx 460 (1.5gb) - will I still be able to play games such as SCII on high settings?

Also I don't suppose anyone here has delt with *** before? They seem to sell the same laptop for £100 less - I'd probably still buy from OC as there a trustworthy company and I recently got scammed on a tv but thought I'd ask.

Cheers,

Shaun

The 5870 is a fantastic mobile card. I have the 5850 and manage SCII easily on high settings. I'm pretty sure both cards are comparable, not a huge difference between them. I've found that the 460 tends to be a bit more expensive though, but not any better.

Had my GX660 for about 8 months now and I'm still in love with it. I started off running just a game at a time, then a game and browser to tab to. It handled it with ease. Now I'm usually running Eve Online, Skype, a Steam game (if waiting for people in Eve) like L4D2 and a browser and it still keeps up. My best purchase of the last 5 years once I replaced the crappy hard drive.
