Hello guys,

Had my laptop about 2.5years now and the battery has been a bit iffy for the last 2 month but it has never bothered me, seen as it never comes off charge.

Problem is now is that the laptop will not even charge at all. Even taking the battery out, the laptop will not run from the mains like it could use to.

Noticed yesterday that I had to move the charger connector about that plugs into the laptop, so it would power the laptop.

Could the iffy battery killed the power slot on the laptop or do you think the charger in faulty? The laptops power slot looks fine.

Battery use to last 2hours and now lasts 5minutes.

What we guessing?

Thanks

New battery and new AC adapter perhaps.

If you can find one with the same connector and voltage you could see if it connects properly.

The AC plug could be damaged at the PCB level.

Thanks for the reply.

Seems the DC Power socket has gone I think. Just tried another charger and nothing happened.

Can grab the part off eBay for a couple of quid. Got my laptop in parts on the table now but struggling to split the casing from each other around the back where the speakers are on the corners. A video shows someone just popping these corners off easily, doesn't seem that easy for me. If I put any more strength into it, something will snap.

I'll figure it though later.

Is it common for these DC sockets to go? Considering the laptop is plugged in 24/7?

Thanks

My brother had the same problem with a GX660R I sold him.

I told him not to use it on his lap as he will damage it, but instead use it solely on a desk/table.

6 months down the line, he had tugged on the cable one too many times and it damaged the internal DC Jack. IIRC he purchased a new one from eBay for 4 quid and our neighbour fit it for him.

Low and behold, all is now well and it is performing correctly (all be it on a desk from now on :p)

The joys.....

My soldering iron will not melt the solder on the board so I am letting my mate take it to work with him on Monday and he will get one of his staff to sort it for me.

Mrs will love me leaving all that on the dining table till Monday night... :)

why do manufacturers still solder the AC jack to the motherboard like that?

Thankfully on our Sony Vaio it was attached with a flexi-cable which just connected to the board, so it was a doddle to fit.
