I made a thread last week about choosing a 7950 but missed out on the 4pm deadline and decided i might aswell wait for the start of the week before ordering and now OC are offering a 7970 for under 300!

Just wondered if its worth the extra £45 over the 7950's

Not fussed about spending an extra £45 really but if the MSI's run hot and loud then thats a different matter!

I've seen a lot of posts with people saying "just OC the 7950" but wasn't sure if that was based on a ~£100 difference in price

I suppose it depends on what res you play at.

1080p for example and the 7970 is almost ott, and that MSI reference model is overclocked too.

Good price for a powerful card though.

I play at 1920x1200

After a bit more research i'm leaning towards the 7970, was just worried it was a reference cooler and was going to be really hot and noisy but it doesn't seem too bad, unless anyone has some absolute horror stories

I've been putting up with some pretty hefty capacitor squeal on my 260 gtx so how much worse can it be

I wnet for this today as I thought it was a stonking deal and Im going to be using a 30" Dell so I need a beefy card, hoping its going to arrive tomorrow :D

upgrade from a 6870 so it should be a vast improvement
