Couple of problems here.

IDE problems on MSI K7Delta 2 motherboard.

The main problem is that it will only detect 1 hard drive when 2 are plugged into the same IDE cable. Though if i put them both on single IDE cables it detects them both.

It will detect 2 DVD burners on 1 IDE cable but not 2 Hard drives.

I have tried both IDE slots on the board and each time i put both drives onto 1 IDE cable it will only detect 1 drive. There is no sign of it what so ever in Device manager. I have uninstalled all IDE drivers on the board and rebooted several times and still it doesn't detect both drives Via 1 IDE cable.

Has anyone got any idea on what could be causing this?

Ok, obvious thoughts first:-

Are your HDs setup with MASTER and SLAVE?

Got to ask.

Also, are any or both of the drives MAXTOR?

I find Maxtor are weird in that they often dont like being paired up woth other makes of drive.

Also, as a sort of fix, have you tried one HD and one DVD per cable? they will probably work that way just fine, the HDas MASTER and the DVD as slave obviously, although this makes no difference really... Not anymore.

I've fixed it m8. Somone on the MSI forums told me too clear the CMOS so i did and it worked...The drives were set correctly all i did was clear the CMOS and turned it back on bit of a strange one that....

Friends a happy chappy now, tight sod didn't want too upgrade at all.

Clearing the CMOS would do it sometimes, but I think thats overkill for what needed to be done.

If the next time that happens, before oyu clear the CMOS ( Which also kills off a fair load of other settings that you may need ) just go into the first page of the BIOS and tell it what HD you have, or let it find it there.

I think that what happened to you, is simply that it was assuming it was a different HD maybe?

Either way, who cares, its one now so thats great.
