MSI Kombuster , Is it a realiable test for testing a card for artifacts ?

I have a old RX 480 8gb reference edition, that I had lent to a friend, he said it is artifacting, I cannot see any artifacts whilst benchmarking on a long loop in Heaven benchmark and I tested the card with MSI Kombuster with the artifacts box ticked, I ran the test for over an hour, no issues.

I am thinking of selling the card, but I would like to test it with a program to confirm no issues.

Heaven's a poor benchmark for doing anything with modern cards. It's so light that bad overclocks and such pass it easily. I don't know about Kombustor, but you should run it through every test you can find and do some gaming on it too in a few different titles before you sell it to make sure, or you may face return hassle down the line. 3DMark would be a good place to start, specifically Fire Strike and Time Spy. Unigine Superposition too, which is a more modern and stressful benchmark from the people who made Heaven.

Kombuster seems ok, fine line in getting artifacts and gpu driver crashes though when big OC used.

Its still ok, bear in mind you should test more than just full load, there is the intermediate parts of the curve, I extremely rare put a gpu under full load in anything other than benchmarks.

Kombuster's really good for testing Afterburner Overclocks - I found the PhysX Hard and Furmark memory tests (6GB) to be really useful for getting my undervolting and memory overclock just right.

I think most of the tests have an artifact tester - try the Furmark ones (it always caught issues with my overclocks).
