Anyine have a source for MSI laptop schematics?
My recently purchased gt72s 6qe has gone down.
MSI Poland are refusing to help. A new board is Costly.

Many thanks

No one has schematics.
If they did, I would have them. Some of their extremely old ancient laptops have schematics that were leaked but nothing worth anything.

MSI doesn't care about end users knowing anything about their laptops besides pressing the power button. And neither do world class overclockers (because they know they are hot throttlebook trash).
Only their desktop mainboards do because world class overclockers with their extreme mods drive sales.

There are some basic disassembly instructions in the "service manual" which isn't even a real service manual that is about it.

Apparently VRM failure isn't uncommon with these models and is fairly easy to find on the board, without a schematic, if you have sufficient knowledge that a schematic would be useful.

Simple steps to check

1) Does PSU Brick's LED stay on when pressing power on the system
2) If 1 Still shows no LED on PSU on pressing power button, then there is a short, unplug battery from system and try again and check PSU LED
3) If 2 Still shows no LED on PSU on pressing power button, then take out the GPU MXM card and retest again.
4) If 3 Still shows no LED on PSU on pressing power button, then check VRM's on CPU Side
5) If 4 Still shows no LED on PSU on pressing power button, then check the Intel PCH for damage.
6) If 5 Still shows no LED on PSU on pressing power button, open window and throw it.

Sorry to revive an old thread but i'm having a similar problem. I'm trying to follow the diagnostic steps that you set out above but i'm struggling to interpret results, as my PSU only dies while gaming.

The PSU's LED stays on until i boot a game. While gaming the PSU will eventually die (could be after 5 mins, could after 1 hour) and the LED will turn off. The laptop does not crash, if i'm able to quickly unplug the PSU from the mains and reconnect it before the laptop dies (the battery is old and lasts only a minute or two), then i'm able to resume gaming without a crash.

Moving onto step 2 of your diagnostic process, i disconnected the battery and tried again. This had an interesting result. Once again, the laptop and PSU stay on until a game is launched. This time, however, the laptop turns off as soon as a game is launched. Interestingly, the PSU remains on in this instance.

I'm yet to remove the GPU, which is my next step. However, surely if this was a GPU issue, then the game would crash when the PSU shorts?

My technical knowledge is extremely limited, so i would appreciate any insights. I'm also not sure i have the ability to check the VRMs or intel PCH if need be, so would appreciate any guidance there too.

Thanks!
