just wondering with the problems with the NVidia 970s how does that effect msi laptops with 970s in them ??

The 970m isn't affected by the issues because it's running on a narrower memory bus with less VRAM than the desktop configuration of the 979, so it'll be fine.

What problems?

The last 500MB~ of VRAM and its speed problems, as well as the effective reduced memory bandwidth in total.

The 6 gig version has more vram.

The memory is a single block on all mobile chips as memory controllers are either fully enabled or fully disabled.

The 970m has a 192 bit memory bus, the 980m has a 256 bit memory bus.

Incidentally the 970m's bandwidth is proportionally less (3/4 that of a 980m).

Which implies that it's addressing 3/4 the amount of RAM chips compared to a 980m. So a 6GB one will be using memory chips at double the density, which again means it's not an issue.

Really, they should have just arranged it like that for the desktop 970.
