MSI Lightning 780 gtx Faulty - Need Help

O come on, you don't really think "military class components", "ultra durable" or any other buzz words/marketing BS is anything other than something to help them sell hardware, surely?

They aren't implying anything, the only weight a statement like "military class components" has is what you as the buyer hold it to.

The fact a company puts a 2 year warranty on something speaks far more than any marketing buzz words.

That being said it's still poor form for something to die after only a few years, and I would expect it to last longer, that's for sure. Only thing u can do is vote with you wallet and not buy MSI products again.

Right so again I'm glad you agree at the end but I'll provide some more detail as to why claiming military class matters, I've got the box in front of me this is the quote

"MSIs military class 4 components have been Mil-STD-810g certified (might not mean **** as you said but hear the rest) and are exclusively available on MSI graphics cards. Military class 4 components are the most stable components available and enhance the performance, efficiency stability quality and enhancement of new SFC, Hi-c Cap and dark solid cap."

Also on the box from various component breakdowns "rare metal, incredible lifetime, stable gpu power, higher current capacity, 10 year ultra long lifetime on the capacitors". Right so there claiming stable durable efficient, they have 10 year life capacitors on a product that will break way before even half that in some cases...

Also "improved thermal design, increased heat sink area, enhanced heat dissipation, dust removal technology by reversing fans on startup to help heat sink dust removal".

Everything stated on just the box itself is clamining it to be a pretty good product by any standards, I'm not trying to say it's all as they say but it's clear they are marketing this as a high end product.

It's a high end product and you've been very unlucky unless you've been running the card at silly temperatures and/or messing with voltage and heavy over clocking. You should always buy a card with 3 years minimum and in my view, never top end of the tier as pound for pound they are almost always worse value. A 780 for £600+ is silly money when you could buy good cards for under £500.

I think after reading about them components and the claim of near 10 years lifetime you might have a case if you take it to msi and tell them you only bought it because of this.

What is the warranty on all MSI graphics cards? i heard it was 3 years. My card is 2 years and 2 months old and im getting the Display Driver error. My card is the MSI GTX 780.

It a pain, but sell the broken card you'll, get £60 after fees (maybe more cause it's a lighting card), buy any 2nd hand GTX 970. Should be a slight upgrade. If you're lucky you can pick one up for £130+.

Even if it only lasts a year and dies it's cost you £70, and then you could probably flog it off for £30+ as broken and repeat. ^^

Treat it as a lesson not to buy overpriced factory OC models, if losing £70 of value is a problem. Or go for a longer warranty model.

You could go take OC to court if you could prove an inherent fault from new, but that's very hard to prove on a GPU. And for a £70 loss the cost to take this action which isn't guaranteed to work, IMO isn't worth it.
