So I have this mobo & my question is, If I fill all 4 nvme slots, & all the sata slots (7) with drives will I lose pcie lanes for my graphics card? Obviously I dont want to lose performance of my graphics card so if I its not possible to fill all of them how many could I fill without loosing performance, is there a way to find out? I do plan on having 4 nvme drives, 4 SSD's & 2 HDD's altogether eventually, with the occasional usb 3 drive attached for file transfers, thanks.. :)

If you check the specifications of the above motherboard only one m2 slot is from the CPU lanes so won't affect the gpu the other 3 are from the chipset.

If you use a SATA M.2 drive (unlikely, not sure anyone buys these anymore) in M.2 slot 3, then you lose SATA port 1, I can't see any other conflicts.

Yes I did read in the manual that If I use the M.2 slot 3 it will disable sata 1, I plan on putting a WD SN850X in M.2 slots 3 & 4 not a sata m2 drive so should be good right? Ok so that means I can have a total of 4 nvme drives & 6 sata ssd/hdd's as planned without affecting the gpu correct? :)

Correct.

M2 , Take a look at the sn770 it a great performer for the money.

I have both the SN 850X and SN 770 and both are very similar in performance from my usage. I have the same motherboard with all 4 NVMe slots filled with these drives and no issues to report.

Great, thanks for the help & advice guys.. :)
Edit: Just looked at the SN770 & it looks like the largest they do is a 2tb, I already have one SN850X in slot 2 & looking at getting another two 4tb drives really. I do have a strange issue that has started happening recently regarding the SN850X but I'm going to start a new thread for that as soon as I can get round to it.

4tb drives tend to get expensive so unless you need blistering speed there are some good drives around £200 .

What's the use for the drives?

Sn850x check for firmware update.

The drives are for games, my whole setup is built around gaming. I have a 1tb SN850X for OS (slot 1) & a 4tb SN850X (slot 2) atm. I have checked the firmware using the WD app & its all up to date & working well with no errors reported. Mobo bios has been updated & all drivers are up to date.
Ok I'll briefly tell you what the issue is, very recently while trying to start a game when using the Xbox gaming app with games on the SN850X 4tb a blue rectangle box would pop up saying "the game cant open because it is offline, The storage device might be missing or disconnected". So basically its saying the drive cant be found, but the OS & the WD app & everything else says its working fine. Weird thing is I can chose to download a new game in the Xbox app to install on the drive & it will start downloading it, & when I try the game again it will start (almost as if the app is saying, oh yeah its connected after all) Sometimes the game will start ok but then crash within a couple of mins with the blue box message, closing the app & reopening it will mostly let it run again. If it doesn't crash within the first couple of mins the game is ok. It so far seems to be happening ONLY with games on the Xbox app installed to that drive, other games installed on the drive through a different app are fine, even games on the Xbox app installed on that drive but through another launcher eg:Ubisoft, EA play work fine with no crashing. I feel the problem is something to do with an update to the Xbox app recently thats somehow causing a conflict with the SN850X 4tb, I dont know how that is at all possible but thats what all things are pointing too. I could go into much more detail about what else I have found..
I hope that kinda makes sense? lol

Would be my guess too, sounds like a software problem rather than a hardware problem. Is there anything in the event viewer around those times?

I remember there being a couple or more updates to the Xbox app the week it started (start of June), there has also been at least one update to the Xbox app since then too that I was hoping would sort it out but it hasn't.
I should also add that it doesn't happen all the time, it can go a couple of days without incident or it can happen first thing as soon as I try to launch a game, (but after several attempts it works ok).
I've been waiting in the hope it will sort itself out cos there's nothing else I think of to try as I don't think the drive is faulty, but kinda feel like I should tell Microsoft/WD about the issue in case there's summit they can do, but I know that could be a massive job in itself lol.
I'll have to check event viewer next time it happens!

So I tried again just now, I had been playing last night & earlier today without incident but just now its crashing again, event viewer says Warning "Disk 9 has been surprise removed".
Now the odd thing is atm I have 8 drives installed, & the 4tb SN850X is Disc 7, even Computer management has it as disk 7 there is no Disc 9? What's that all about!?
Even with that warning in Event viewer, Devices & drives/computer management shows it as there, & I can access the drive & use it as normal?

That is actually an error on MSI's part if you use any type of drive (sata or nvme) in m2 slot 3, then sata port 1 doesn't work. I've spoken to their technical team about this very issue today and they are going to update the text in the manual to make it more accurate and to correct this error.

My original question was answered, do you have an issue with your mobo what were you hoping to find?
Well sorry I meant update on Spuguns post. I bought MAG Z790 Tomahawk Wifi month ago and there is no corrected info about M.2-3 SATA port I just don't want to experiment and try to instal NVME drive in thet slot Thank you
